Keith Haring

Keith Haring

The image it self is fun and colorful, it looks like the people are dancing and jumping, this saw the same feeling you get at the club to catwalk exhibition because of the music. the yellow is strong and every colour used has a complementary
colour to it, e.g the purple and yellow.

my experimentation, i though the finished outcome was good and looked colorfull

stright away the red heart draws my attention, the bold lines really make this illustration stand out.

I like the way she uses silhouettes to build up the images. her work flows as she uses a colored background, this could look interesting on a poster.

Animals on the undergrounnd

Her line drawings are very creative, this could be interesting to see how it can work on the V&A poster giving directions to the V&A via underground tube. The pink and blue bounce off the dull white and black page

My experimentation using silhouettes. I chose to use a green and yellow because they are two colours normally matched with nature, using silhouettes i layered up shapes to create this picture, i found this harder i thought because it had to be simple but effective as well.

Artist Research

David Carson.

He is an American Graphic designer. best know for his work in magazine design, and his experimental typography.

 ART WORK
David Carson makes simple whit and black body copy interesting and it would stand out is put next to any other simple black and white poster. its drawing me in because of the use of white spacing creating the rest of the poster and how his name sits on the top in red is crazy but it work because it makes you look and its unique. i like how the words 'legibility' is kerned, the different spacing makes it fun to read. it also looks like its the white from the background is reversed making the words 'for communication'.

This Fall 2010 gallery for the University is interesting because it looks like their is a heart in he middle, i like he way the weight of texts had been played with and it gives different words different level of hierarchy.

This poster is bold because of the red used, its advertising a product placed in shops so using red will link to store sales which will attract customers. the red looks like its attacking the words in the middle drawing your eyes to it.

my Extermination in the style of David Carson - tried to use the white coming in from the edges to attack the word in the middle, I found working in the style of David Carson hard but fun, because you get to explore your imagination but restrict it to text.

Graphical Advertising Poster

In this brief i am required to design a London underground poster advertising the 'Club to Catwak' exhibition currently showing at the V&A Museum.

This will need to be presented wit a professional pitch using powerpoint and a body of work and researches put on my online blog.

Evaluation

In this brief we was given the chance to re brand the college's refectory and turn it into a more friendly and public place to eat and relax.
i looked at other eating establishments to see their cafe or shop looks, and i understand if they have a unique style, it creates a ambiances, for example i visited a cafe in Luton that works with their customers creating are that can be put on the wall, attracting customers to come in. it's important to understand the business you are working for so pictures was taking of the refectory to see the existing look and get spaces and idea.
To stretch my ideas i looked at artists and some street art, i found some ideas on how to put some colour and quirk patterns in the refectory. i understand that i will have to work under the clients needs, so some ideas may not suit the refectory or the client.

I tried to put understanding of colour and how it could make a place a place feel into my final outcomes, and make the refectory feel welcoming. i think that pulling away from the primary school feel of pure colours such as red, and bold greens was important because we and change the way the customers see it and may fee it like more of a place to sit and relax. i used tertiary colours to blend in and remove the school feel.

I felt excited to work on this brief because i could get to see my outcomes in the refectory and see how other people fee about it.

Personally i really like my outcomes i tried to make all the layouts and products flow by using the same colour key and using the splash ink colour to create fun illustrations and bright colours to open up the room. this idea also gives corporate identity to the refectory.

If i could change anything i would have be created a wider range of illustrations to go on the wall because i think that the idea may be to over used if place over the refectory.

Final outcomes. Logo

LOGO
The logo is simple and can work and can work in any colour and size, which is important as the company may want to display their logo on different surfaces. the cube was inspired by the central bedfordshire colleges's logo, this creates a link with the college and the name Eight Three was chosen after looking at the opening and closing times of the cafe, this is good as the logo holds information to give to the customers.
i think the logo captures aspects of the college so it holds friendliness and trust.

 SLOGAN
I drew up a bubble map of slogans to get an idea. i chose to use the college's font to create the slogan. i chose Customer Satisfaction because it tell the customers what service they will be getting and its sets the mood.

 OPEN&CLOSED
It's important to present information about your business. Open and closed sings are normally boring, and are not giving the information clearly. so i used this Quirky and fun design to make it attractive to people eavan if they are just walking past, i wanted they to stop and look.

 PRODUCT ADVERTISMENT
The splash of colour was inspired by my artist look at the street artists. the colours are all linked as shown on the logo page. this gives the company a corporate identity, i moved away from the primary colours as i felt is was to childish and used some tertiary colours to maake the place fun.

 WELCOME
The welcome sign is strongly linked to product advertisements because of the color splash this link makes the company and the design look professional.
the college font is used to create a link with the college, i think it's fun and can be plased over the wall in front of the refectory in the reception. and will draw customers in.

 ILLUSTRATIONS
My illustration was inspired my my artist research on Julian Opie and Patrick Caulfield. I liked the simplicity of their illustrations and the bold colours used. on my illustration a have captured the live bold colours and creating a bold black outline to fit their style, i think this would make the place playful and would look nice to sit in and relax  while you look at the art n the walls. this can plased on the strip of wall under the sieving points on on the wall to give it colour as the red that sits is dull.

Artist of influence

patrick caulfield
this artwork is colourfull, and images like this could make the refectory look open to the bublic and it will get people to come in and look at the artwork.
the different coloure make you feel a bit dizzy a bit like the colour theory, but it is fun to look at.

julian opie
this reminds me of the square pillars in the refectory, i like how all the colours are bounced off the white, the strips are very eyecatching and the use of complementary colours makes the work strong.
