I came across this design that runs across the page, this simple line drawing is what could be placed around the Refectory, using iconic buildings in dunstable or interesting shapes in analogous colours could brighten up the Refectory.

Creative Logo

The John Lewis Logo.

John Lewis
John Lewis is a chain of high based upmarket  department Stores operating in Great Britain. The chain is owned by the John Lewis Partnership, their product range form hot and cold foods to furniture and clothing.
The Logo is simple and shows maturity and Class. You can see the line icons and then if you look at the text it looks like the text are created the line icon above, they have been curved into letters. The hole thing is reversed and it stands out, the logo can be put onto any surface in any size.

I think the John Lewis logo is a excellent example of a creative logo. The logo icon or symbol can be placed to create an non stop pattern alone surfaces, this is smart because John Lewis an place their corporate identity on their product packaging or on on deliverer trucks. this gave me an idea of how the Refectory could adapted this style and have pattern around the walls.
in relation to my Artist of influence post. having a simple line ling drawing that going around the Refectory will look interesting and would make the place look more spacious.

Examples of Menus

This may to over packed with information and may hurt your eyes. the colour layout is good and it has a link with the company's colours.

I think this menu is simple and it works, the green and yellow work well together, they are next to each other on the colour wheel. the black bounces off the sheet because of the yellow background.

I don't like this menu just green on a white background looks boring, however it's been but in a table, this shows the business ts organised and mature

Apple - IT and Computers

Wasted Youth - Fashion Label

Disney mass media corporation

ASDA - Supermarket

All of the logos above are from different companies that produce different products and services, Each logo is different and has a unique touch to represent the company, for example Disney's logo is in script this shows its friendly and the style looks playful.
The Apple logo is in chrome and had shine, this represents all their products as being high quality and look good too.

Logos need to say something about the company, because the company's name could be forgotten but the logo could help customers remember. A logo need to be visible for far and should be able to be shrunk do to fit on flyers, posers or company shirts.

Cafe Logos

Starbucks Coffee
Starbucks Coffee is an American global coffee company. Starbucks serve hot and cold beverages, including  instant coffee, full-leaf teas, pastries, and snacks. Starbucks i a big coffee franchise whit sorts across the UK China and Europe.

Costa Coffee

Costa Coffee is a British coffeehouse company. It is the second largest coffeehouse chain in the world behind Starbucks. Its the largest coffeehouse in the United Kingdom.

Colour Theory Expirations

Complementary colours Blue & Orange

Analogous colour pattern
This pattern was created on adobe Photo Shop.  To create this Analogous green and yellow was chosen as they sit next to each other on the colour wheel. for the background i added black to the green, this becomes the accent colour. it makes the first colour the dominant colour it stands out, the second colour the supports the first and then the third colour accents the two.

Artist of influence

http://man-e-toys.com/about/

I ran into the blog which posts steer art and i thought they are fun and quirky. My client said she would like to have a fun and quirky design around her Refectory. i am not sure of the artist that did this illustrations but they are very interesting designs.

This design catches my eyes immediately. the bold lines dose make it stand out the different shades of pink are real bright.

The colour on this illustration will fit in with the one in the Refectory, it may be interesting playing with shades of red so se how it could complement the colour in the Refectory. this pattern in a apple green will complement the colour currently used in the Refectory.

I really like this illustration,  van imagine it along the Refectory walls. the text could be made up of the slogan or the new name of the. The negative spacing in the painting is at an equal amount it dose not draw your eyes or make it hard to read.

Corporate Identity

corporate identity is the overall image of a or firm or business in the minds of their customers and the employees. This could be the Logo, Uniform, Colours, Products and the building. It is communication that portraits the personality of the business between the customers and staff.

The Corporate Identity is mostly know through the company logo. The Logo is what the Customers look at and is how they identify different business.

My client asked for a new logo so it is important i research what makes a good and bad logo. so i can produce a professional and successful outcome for my client.

Designers Research

I looked at this website called B3 designers for research to see how a space could be developed B3desingers work with branded and unbranded companies. redesign restaurants and cafe space to give a unique identity, work with fabric and location building creative space with a strong design that is appealing ant attractive to customers and the staff. It is important for the staff to enjoy where they are working becaause it will overflow onto the customers creating a friendly atmosphere.

B3 Desingers worked on the look of the serving point of this bar, i think this design is fun and quirky the bright colours pull you in. i like how the drinks are arranged in the small wooden cases. the blue is a strong colour but the warm red stands out reflecting the light. this strip going along the serving point is like the one in the Refectory. using that space will be very effective if something reflective was added. At the back wall the bottles are arranged and it makes the place look professional. The posters in the Refectory at the minuet are placed all over walls in no order.

This is the seating for the bar, imaging that this was the walls in the Refectory having art placed over the will make it look more elegant and will remove the feeling of school, so ling as the art is at a high stander. having pop art like painting may add the the primary school feel.
The bar is colorful and the ambiance is peaceful,  using the space in the refectory, the seating could be arranged to make it more comfortable for people to stay and eat or relax and meet other students.

Scandinavia Cafe

A business need to have their own identity, this could be a logo, style or history, anything that gives the business an edge over other businesses. A corporate identity could say a lot about a business and give customers the right information. For example McDonald's changed their logo from RED and Yellow to Green and Yellow. to show that they are keeping up with modern times, and they want to be recognized as a restaurant not a fast food place. Also the green shows respect for the environment.

I visited a Restaurant in Luton Called Scandinavia Cafe. This was a unique cafe with history and a good customer relation. The cafe was comfortable to be in, friendly staff, and it was a themed cafe, it had a 1972 look which i thought was nice, it was well decorated using warm colours, witch i think could brighten the look of the Refectory. The Cafe has be running for 41 years and has attracted customers form all over.

The Cafe has a big seating area but what caught my eye is this little area, using comfortable sofas it allows customers to relax for a long time and enjoy their meal or meet up socially.

The cafe was beautifully decorated with art, posters and props. the painting along the wall was made by the children, that live around the area, i think the painting adds color to cafe.

This is the menu, chalk and blackboard. personally i do not like the style of blackboard display, it brings the quality of the place down. however, some could use really nice fonts and different colours this shows off the menu and can attract customers to look at the menu. for example some pubs tent to but their menus outside. it may be a good idea to show some of the products the Refectory sells listed outside on notice boards this and draw students passing by.

The Scandinavia Cafe has an information bored open to the customers. while doing research i found out that this cafe has attracted he attention of the The Queen.

Colour Theory

To understand how I can use colour to help design the refectory i did a practice on colour theory, creating three patterns using complementary and Analogous colours.

This diagram explains the different colours, warn and cold, i found this useful as i could back to it to and compare colours together to find out what could go best with the red in the refectory. this diagram also explained in detail colour mixture such as Tint, Tone or Shade.

Using the colour wheel on the diagram I filled out this twelve colour piece on Adobe Photoshop. I found it a bit tricky to find the right tones but was easy using the paint bucket tool to fill out the piece. in the wheel you can see how the colours develop from warm to cold blending between primary, secondary and tertiary colours. I found the hole practice helpful towards the brief.

Interior Research

The wooden furniture of asda cafe dose not look comfortable, it had the same feeling as the refectory, a customer may rather get their food and go, it's not really drawing to sit and relax. the painting on the wall dose take some of that tension off and and makes it a little friendly, but it dose not compare with other cafe such as Costa Coffee.

playful logo, using typography to play around with the letters, it's attractive. The image is big and clearly visible from a distance

Asda Menu.
I found the pricing list to be really dull and simple, but it holds a level of maturity and is suitable for their target audience

I went down to cafes to look at their interior designing, logo and menus. After looking at Costa Coffee and Asda's Cafe I found that the color code are slimier, this my be because the red they use are warm colours ant they both want to present an inviting area fro customers to relax and enjoy.

Images of the Refectory.

This picture of the Refectory shows a huge amount of space, on the walls and in between tables. I can see a wide range of colors to to make the refectory look friendly. however the use of bright primary colors look childish and may not relate to teenagers coming in and out of college.

It is possible to fit long portrait posters advertising products because you see these posters when to line to buy products from the refectory.

I need to understand that the main color of the refectory is red, so i will need to input my ideas to complement the colors and style of my clients business.

 Images of outside the Refectory

I chose to look at images outside and just before the entrance of the Refectory. My client mentioned a welcome sings and direction to the Refectory so it is important to look at spacing and possible options for signage to be put.

Image 2.

Image 3.
Looking at the images of the Refectory you can see the ambiance. it's not really welcoming. the current posters are scattered over the wall and it dose not look professional.
