Club to Catwalk
On a trip to
see the fashion exhibition, I was a wide range of designers working with the
80’s era. The 80’s fashion began to grow, with colours and textures and sound.
The catwalk was introduced as a disco based event, with heavy funky music, I
noticed this as soon as you walk into the exhibition, the music really moves
the mood and the people, I also think the music is like club music it’s bouncy
and fun, its fits in the colours you will find on the designs.
Chrissie
Walsh uses flat block colours on her jackets making it bold and eye catching,
in the 80’s I think it was moving away from black and white or dull greys and
being see, with colours and loud styles. To me it looks like the 80 era was
fun. Having different designers in sections of the exhibition really showed off
the colours and how it add to the ambiance of the place, for example one
designer could use blue card to display information and another uses orange,
these colours attract each other and make you want to go from one straight to
another. This brought out a feel of fighting for hierarchy.
The display
of the designs are begin to attract my attention as I go up stair the fonts
used was quirky and in bold designs. I saw a display of punk denim jackets and
shirts. The shirts had sliver spikes, to me that hold danger and the mood
changes as the text was in red and black, this went well with the mood of
danger.
On the
knitwear display very sharp colours where used to show off the clothing, the
body copy is playful and in bold text green text, this complements the red
tones on the jumpers and shirts on the display.
